Homai te...

This term in Room 6 we are learning how to say classroom objects in Māori.

We have learnt HEAPS! But our favourite ones are kutikuti and pukapuka, can you guess what they might be??

*Answer is at the bottom of the post...

This week we learnt how to ask someone to pass you an object, the phrase we learnt was

'Homai te_________' this means 'Pass me the__________'

so if someone asked you 'Homai te pene hinu' they would be asking you to pass the crayon!

Check out our photos below of us practising using the phrase...

Homai te pene rakau (Pass me the pencil)

Harrison and Ihaka are working well together

Kadugli and Poppie practising saying the phrase

I wonder what Jorja has asked Maria to pass her??

What did Reneea ask you to pass Marnel?

Nikau doesn't look happy about handing over his pukapuka

I think Cooper might be wanting the kutikuti

Hmmm I wonder what Te Koha and Ashley are waiting on Milla to pass them??

** kutikuti are scissors and pukapuka means book!!

Fossils...

The Hippos reading group read an awesome book all about fossils last week!

There was heaps of amazing facts about what fossils are, how they are made and where you can find them... We were all amazed that trees can turn into stone if they fall into mud and are left there for millions of years!!

The book had a great activity where we got to make our own fossils.

We had to flatten a piece of playdough and then push a dinosaur into it and then put it in the sun to dry out, awesome!!

Have a look at the fossils we made...

Japanese Student Visit

On the Wednesday morning of Week 2, Room 6 and the rest of Hampstead School walked on over to the hall and welcomed some Japanese students visiting NZ.

We sang two songs to them and then they introduced themselves and did a dance and sang two songs, they were really good! They translated 'Let it Go' from Frozen into Japanese... Awesome!

Then Room 5 & 6 piled into Room 6 and some Japanese students taught us how to use chopsticks... Some of us found it super hard!!! But the Japanese students were really helpful.

One of the students introducing herself to the school.

Their first song, their school song.
This is the dance that they did, it was really cool.

Keep practicing everyone!

The NED Show

Last week we were super lucky, we got to go to an awesome yo-yo and magic trick show called 'The NED Show'.

NED and his friend Craig came along and taught everyone at Hampstead School to...

Never give up
Encourage others
Do your best!

That spells NED! We got to see awesome yo-yo tricks like walk the dog, the Eiffel Tower and heaps of others.

Then he did a magic trick and made a pencil grow and grow and grow!!

What a great show!!

Wastebusters 2014

This term we have been lucky enough to have Sharyn from Wastebusters come in and teach us all about recycling... Wearable Art recycling!!!

We had such an awesome time trying on all the different outfits that she brought along...

Gosh, don't we look good!?

Then we made hats that Miss Brown bought for us into new hats... Wearable Art!! Each hat was completely different and all had a theme, some were garden hats, some were animals, some were sports team related... They were all so cool!

Have a look for yourself...

Thanks again Sharyn for all your help!! We had such an awesome time!
