A visit from the local firemen

Last term we learnt about how to be Firewise Kids!
We know the difference between a tool and a toy, a safe fire and unsafe fire. We know what to do if we discover a fire and all about what firemen do and the safety gear they use.

Our local fire brigade were generous enough to come and demonstrate what they do when they get called out to a real fire.
They came to our school and smoked out one of our classrooms (don’t worry it wasn’t real smoke) and unfortunately there were two teddy bears stuck in the classroom… OH NO!!

The fire brigade were called and arrived in their fire truck, thank goodness! They jumped out of the truck, put on their safety gear and one of them pulled the hose out and tested that it was ready to go.

Then they went up to door and checked it was ok to go into the classroom. They went inside and rescued the teddies, brought them outside and gave them oxygen.


It was really good to be able to see the process of going into a burning building (even if it was a fake fire), thanks heaps guys!

  1. The fireman and truck went to preschool & mum put on the fireman's suit and she said it was soooo heavy!
